(Spoilers ahead for Bridgerton Season Three, Part One)

After viewing the first four episodes, continue reading to learn more about the poignant conclusion and its implications for the future of “Polin”.

The Beginning of Season Three

The third season opens with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) upset after hearing Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) tell his friends that he would never court her. Penelope had been living in the country the previous season. The fact that she is not communicating with Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), Penelope’s closest friend who found out about her hidden identity as Lady Whistledown last season, is only making the situation worse.

Penelope declares she is ready to find a spouse, while Eloise makes an unexpected new acquaintance with the snobbish Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen). She made this decision partly in an attempt to break free from her controlling mother, her two naive sisters, and their incompetent husbands, who are preoccupied with attempting to conceive a male heir to inherit the Featherington estate.

Penelope’s Dual Life

Penelope is primarily searching for someone who will enable her to carry on living a double life as Lady Whistledown. As all is going on, Colin returns from his international adventures with an even more endearing and captivating appearance. Penelope and the other debutantes take note of his dashing new look, but she stays away from him since she is still offended by his past remarks about her.

When Colin finally probes Penelope about their friendship, she gives an explanation for her withdrawal. Penelope accepts Colin’s offer to help her find a suitable husband this season as a way of making atonement. He gently mentors her, but when Eloise finds out and tells Cressida, his help turns into a scandal. In order to avoid suspicion, Lady Whistledown (Penelope) is forced to write about the controversy.

Colin races to the ball and interrupts the couple mid-dance after learning of Debling’s plot to pop the question. He informs Penelope that Debling is not the proper man for her and that she is making a mistake. Debling believes that Penelope and Colin are more than just friends after seeing their tense exchange. His suspicions are validated by Cressida, who finds herself interested in Debling.

Debling informs Penelope at the conclusion of Bridgerton Season 3 Part One that he is unable to ask her to marry him due to her unresolved romantic feelings for Colin. She rushes to her carriage and leaves the ball, furious that Colin botched her proposal. Colin follows her, snatches the carriage, and pushes his way in. That’s when their relationship starts to heat up.

Colin gives Penelope an impassioned monologue in which he lets all of his feelings run wild. He admits that their first kiss has overtaken him and that his feelings are so strong that they are “torture.” Equally overwhelmed, Penelope acknowledges that she too longs to be “much more” than just pals. The couple’s intense kiss grows as the carriage carries them toward their Mayfair neighbors’ houses.

The Proposal

Colin suggests they head inside Bridgerton House when the carriage pulls up. Then he reaches out and says, “Penelope Featherington, please, for God’s sake.” Are you going to marry me? Penelope gives him a smile, but the scene cuts out before she can respond.

Coughlan and Newton expressed their happiness with the way the first installment concluded to Netflix’s Tudum. Coughlan stated, “We literally looked at the script backward and were like, ‘Oh, that’s so good.'” “It’s so great because you know there’s still so much more to come.”

What to Expect in Part Two

The conclusion of the fourth episode signals a turning point where “everything is about to change,” showrunner Jess Brownell told Today.com. This is in contrast to the first part of the series, which concentrated more on Colin and Penelope becoming more than friends.

Beginning on June 13, Brownell stated that the second half of the episodes will take place in “a much more intense, thrilling place.”

“Once Pen and Colin transition into a couple, the conflict is more about the fact that Penelope is hiding this massive secret as Whistledown,” she said. “And you also have Eloise’s reaction to them coming together.”
