Adam Sandler will play the infamous hot-headed golfer in the upcoming Netflix comedy “Happy Gilmore,” the streaming service announced today.
“Happy Gilmore is back, Netflix announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday that Adam Sandler will be reprising his legendary role in a brand-new film that would be available on Netflix.
The bombshell was recently hinted at by actress Drew Barrymore, who told the audience, “I have breaking news… Just to be clear… There will be a Happy Gilmore 2 soon.
Original cast expected to return in the sequel
The original picture, which was directed by Dennis Dugan, is among Sandler’s most well-known productions. It’s the narrative of an unsuccessful ice hockey player who takes up golf and enters a competition to keep his grandmother’s home from going into foreclosure. Written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, the comedy stars Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald in key parts.
Although the original cast is expected to return for the next sequel, several actors have passed away, notably Carl Weathers (Chubbs) and Frances Bay (Grandma Gilmore).

With Netflix, Sandler has a US$250 million deal. He has created eight shows for the platform, including the critically acclaimed stand-up special “100% Fresh,” the comedy “Sandy Wexler,” and a Western parody called “The Ridiculous Six.” “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” his most recent teen comedy, debuted on Netflix in August of last year.
